I just finished reading “How to Use the Internet to Advertise, Promote and Market your Business or Website with Little or No Money” by Bruce Brown. As an Internet marketer and professional blogger, I try to read every book I can on the topic of the Internet. This book is better than most I have read but it is not a great book in my opinion.
As the title suggests, this is about using the Net to promote your business. The author does do a great job at explaining all the various ways you can market your site. He talks out affiliate advertising and Google Ads the most. His explanations are good and there are very useful tips. After 5 years of marketing on the Web, I thought I knew it all, but I learned several new techniques that I will be putting into action. My favorite part of the book is the section where he goes over the terms and abbreviations. I found this helpful because the Internet is changing so rapidly that it is hard to keep up with all the latest terms. The author really knows his stuff and there is a ton of useful information in here.
On the whole the book was good, but there were several areas for improvement. For one, I was not a fan of the author’s writing style. It was dry and I was bored while reading this. He also was repetitive and said the same thing over and over again. I almost felt that he was just trying to fill a word count quota. Another criticism I have is that he seemed to promoting his own sites and services a little too much. I understand the desire to advertise, but when I am spending money on something, I like the promotional material to be kept to a minimum.
