Becoming a fictional Writer is not easy, and making the switch from nonfiction writing to fiction isn’t easy either. In fact it’s been quiet challenge for me, nevertheless if you’d like to become a good fictional Writer I have a very good book recommendation for you. If you read this book you’ll be one step closer to becoming the author of a great fictional work, the name of the book is;
“Elements of Fiction Writing; Scenes and Structure” by Jack M. Bickhan, 1999.
The author explains how to look at your book logically without losing the dramatizations. In other words making sure your fictional work has all the right components; proper transitions, character development, arising conflict, exciting dialogue, proper tempo, and excellent conclusion. The author also suggests that you should keep your novels between 60,000 and 90,000 words.
“When introducing characters put them into real life personalities as soon as possible,” the author tells us. The author explains how to link your Scenes, and anticipate sequels, and where you might join up the storylines; how to control the pace of the story, the careful use of subplots, and dropping content to keep the reader. Here are some of the mistakes that some fictional writers make the author tells us;
- They put too many people in the scene.
- They Introduce a Circular Argument.
- They Have Too Many Unwanted Interruptions.
- They Get off Track.
- They Forget the Goal of the Scene.
- They Introduce an Unmotivated Opposition or Ill Logical Disagreement.
- They Match up Unfair Odds between the Protagonist and Main Characters.
- They Go Too Far into Internal Character Conflict and Mental Situations.
- They Forget When There Are Conflicts That There Must Be Something at Stake.
- They Produce Phony Irony.
At first you will be overwhelmed with all the information in this book, but as you read it and start thinking about it, it all starts making sense. At that point I believe you’ll be ready to start your future novel and fictional work, and make something great. Indeed, I hope you will please consider this.
