Do you ever feel like life is passing you by? Do you ever feel like you’re staying in too much, and not getting out of your comfort zone enough? If so, then you should definitely read ‘Yes Man’ by Danny Wallace. Don’t be fooled by the title – this is no self-help book. It’s actually the rather amusing story of a man that made a pact with himself to say “yes” to anything and everything that he could.
After one day realising that he was slowly drifting into late-twenties obscurity, Danny Wallace realised that he needed to change his life. The first few days after he agrees to say “yes” to life are some of the most hysterical pages I’ve ever read. For example, Danny is out at a nightclub and simply cannot refuse when a man asks him if he’d like to buy a shot. After several more drinks, Danny finds himself being confronted by a large man asking him if he was looking at his girlfriend. Naturally Danny has to say “yes”, and the results are rather comical.
What I like about this book is Wallace’s openness and honesty. Because this book is based on his real life he has really ‘put it all on the line’ and shown his true colours. By the end of the book you are really rooting for Danny, especially after some of the bad experiences he’s had. Midway through the book a nemesis appears, who continually challenges Danny to more and more extreme tasks. The book was recently made into a film (starring Jim Carrey) and has been a huge success.
Are You a Yes Man?
