The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families by Stephen Covey’s published in year 1998 offers us insight and hope to those who feel they have made lot of mistakes, blown it or not prioritized their families and are feeling the repercussions of that decision. This book assists to help our self as agent of change and come out as transition person who can make a difference.
Book helps us to develop three things which will help us and our family stays on track. It enlightens us with three major purposes.
1. Clear Vision of your destination: Families throughout the world have created sense of shared vision and values through the development of a “Family mission statement”. Book helps us to develop such a statement of how to unify and strengthen your family. A family mission statement can become your family’s unique “destination” and the values it contains will represent our guidelines. When our destination is clear, we can keep coming back to the flight plan time and time again. In fact, the journey is really part of our destination.
2. A Flight Plan: It is important that our flight plan is based on the principles that will enable us to arrive at our destination. Book is based on universal, timeless and self-evident principles that are true in the world of human relations. This principle ultimately governs in everybody’s life. Violation of these principles guarantees failure in family or other situations. Second purpose strongly shows us how, regardless of our situation, the book framework can be enormously useful tool in helping us diagnose our situation and create positive change from the inside out.
3. A compass: Third purpose is to help us recognize and develop four unique gifts we have that enable us to become an agent of change in our family. These gifts become a compass or an inner guidance system that will help our family stay on course as we move towards our destination.
